Homeownership Incentive Program

The City of San Antonio has a housing assistance program called the Homeownership Incentive Program to help residents become homeowners. The program is one of many the government has in place for residents who wants to buy a house in the city of San Antonio.

What is Homeownership Incentive Program (HIP)

“HIP” is open to residents who buy houses within the San Antonio city limits. This does not mean you have to buy a house in the downtown area only; you can check the property address against the Bexar County Property website to see if the property qualifies.

An easier way to find these properties is to contact me, Realtor Ray McCurty of SanAntonioAreaRealtor.com a licensed real estate agent. I have access to the houses that meet the criteria for the program and can offer you a free sample at no change. All I need is your name & email.

Is “HIP” Only for City of San Antonio?

(The HIP program changes from time to time allowing residents only to purchase houses in certain areas of the city of San Antonio limits also.)

What are the qualifying income guidelines for the Homeownership Incentive Program?

The HIP program has an income eligibility which is updated annually by HUD. For 2017 the income eligibility is based on 2016 Median Family Income for the San Antonio, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).

Who is Eligible for Homeownership Incentive Program

The “HIP” is available to residents wanting to buy a new and pre-existing house within the city limits of San Antonio. The sales price of the property may not exceed $150,000 for an existing home and $200,000 for new construction. Assistance with the down payment and closing cost are provided for eligible residents who qualify.

The HIP program offers assistance from $1,000 – $12,000 per household.

What else is required for eligibility under the HIP program?

  • You must have not purchased or owned a residential property within the last 3 years
  • The property being purchased must be located within the city limits of San Antonio
  • Homebuyer(s) must qualify for a FHA, VA, or CONVENTIONAL loan with a mortgage lender

To receive the $1,000 – $12,000 housing assistance all the prospective homebuyers must complete a Homebuyer Education Course. After completion of the course a certificate of completion is given to the homebuyer.

Here’s a TIP! Only one member of the household is required to complete the course.

If you feel you meet the eligibility or have further questions on the HIP program, please reach out to me.
